How Does ALEC Support RFID Implementations?

Identifying the Business Case

The business case is key to any RFID program. An effective business case will inform what product is in-scope for RFID tagging, and the requirements that are needed.

Assessing Feasibility
RFID is not a one-size-fits-all solution, and some product categories are easier to tag than others. Factors such as metal and liquid content, size, and supplier readiness all impact the feasibility of RFID tagging an item. The ALEC program can help identify the feasibility and readiness of products and product categories.

Establishing and Communicating Requirements
Based on the business case and feasibility assessment, RFID tagging requirements are established and communicated to product suppliers in the form of an RFID Playbook. The RFID Playbook is a step-by-step guide with all RFID requirements, and the ALEC program ensures these requirements are aligned across all end-users.

Onboarding Product Suppliers

Once the RFID requirements are communicated, product suppliers can be onboarded. ALEC onboarding support includes technical resources for any RFID related questions, as well as ALEC validation.

ALEC validation is a submission program to ensure the use of approved inlays, tagging location, encoding, and more. If an item is particularly challenging, products may be tested to determine the optimal RFID solution. ALEC validation ensures product suppliers' success in RFID tagging before their product arrives tagged in the end-user's facilities.
